Blog Housekeeping

If you’ve got really keen eyes, maybe you noticed a tiny addition to the blog a couple of days ago. I’ll wait a second while you try to figure out what it is…
No clue? Look in the upper right corner of the page. Yes, I’ve finally gotten around to posting an “about me” page. Maybe it’s a little late in coming, but you try writing a blurb about yourself. It’s not so easy! Okay, one or two narcissists in the back might disagree, but still… The thing that pushed me over the edge was finding a page of photos my dad took of me when I was just a little shaver, posing in his collection of antique military helmets. God, I was obsessed with those things when I was a kid. Thumbing through the pics got me thinking about growing up and how I used to love writing stories, and all of a sudden one of those mystical eureka moments came over me. Yes! This is what I’ll put on my “about me” page: the story of my hot/cold/hot relationship to the written word.
And now that I look at the page in daylight, I want to change it. Before I go getting all trigger-happy with the keyboard, I thought I’d live with the words for a few days while I solicit some other opinions. How important is a blog author’s bio page to you? I’d like to think it helps readers connect with the writer… but does it? If you’ve got a favorite “about me” page on some other blog, please share it. I’m all ears.
New Rating Function Added
In other news, I’m trying out a new rating system from the folks at SezWho. Their concept is to connect bloggers and blog readers through the ever-expanding social networking arena. Not only can you rate blog entries, but comments as well. If you’re a member of SezWho, your comments here will be tagged with a “Who am I?” link that opens a little window when moused over. In it, other readers will be able to see links to other blog posts and comments you’ve made around the web. It makes it all the more worthwhile for other bloggers to comment, and paints a broader picture of who the commenter is and what motivates them—fascinating stuff! This is one of those things that’s easier to show than to explain, so why not mouse over the ratings bar below (giving 5 stars, natch) and sign up for a SezWho account? Then you too can start snooping on what your neighbors are up to.

Why do you want to change your About page? I think it’s just perfect! I love the pics and the text is spot-on. You’re right — putting together an About page is way more difficult than it sounds. Oh sure, it’s easy when you’re doing it for someone else or for a company or client, but when you’re composing your own? Not so simple!
